Mausoleum of Plauzi

The Mausoleum of Plauzi is one of the most important archaeological sites of Tivoli. It is an ancient round tower of the first century AD situated near Hadrian's Villa. The mausoleum is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and, together with Lucano bridge, provides access to the ancient Tibur Superbum.

It is built on a square base, topped with a circular tower about 35 meters high; the cross-shaped interior is joined by means of a spherical corridor, attributed to Marcus Plautius Silvanus. Today the mausoleum is unfortunately full of cracks, covered with thick wild vegetation and partially hidden by a retaining wall built to block flooding from the nearby Aniene River.
